How Did Jesus Do That?

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. John 20:24-28

Thomas made the realization that Jesus was his Lord and GOD.  He inspected Jesus and then made his final determination.  We make the same determination without seeing the wounds in Jesus' hands and side.  Jesus is indeed Lord and GOD.  The account above while interesting on the surface might just have some jewels hidden beneath the story as recounted to us.  Besides allowing Thomas to view His wounds, Jesus did something else very perplexing.  There is no indication given that the disciples even noticed anything out of the ordinary.  But out of the ordinary.it was. to say the least.  Jesus did not just walk in the room like one might expect.  He mysteriously appeared in their midst.with the doors closed!  How'd He do that!!

We are creatures that live in four dimensions.  The cosmos we see around us consists of three dimensions of space (length, width and height) and one dimension of time.  Some physicists today theorize using an intriguing "string theory" that there are up to twenty-six dimensions that the universe should possess.  Scientists know that the cosmos was created at a specific instant of time.  It is known that at this instant of creation a minimum of at least nine dimensions of space were necessary for some particles of our universe to be created.

From the theory of general relativity it is known that space and time dimensions of the cosmos had to originate at the same instant as matter and energy.  This could have only occurred if GOD, which created the universe, was operating in dimensions of time and space independent from, and existing before our four dimensions we now see.  From this we can deduce that GOD must operate in dimensions greater than the four we experience.  Some of the paradoxes of the Bible might be resolvable by this extra dimensional functionality that GOD possess.

We as humans have difficulty imagining more than four dimensions.  In fact most of us find it hard to thoroughly understand the four dimensions in which we live! Three at times is to many!  To examine this further, a simplification is most necessary.

We will look at a small universe with only two dimensions; length and width.  With this "universe" so defined we can examine interaction between creatures of two dimensions and creatures that exist in more than two dimensions.  While this is a simplification, we can by comparison, understand to a degree, how GOD who operates in twenty-six or more dimensions interacts with human beings trapped in only four dimensions.

Imagine a universe that consists of only two dimensions of space.  A plane consisting of only length and width, rather than the dimensions of length, width and height in which we live everyday, comprises this universe.  We will call this "universe" "Flatland".

In this two-dimensional cosmos let us imagine that two-dimensional beings exist.  As you can see in the figure above there are two of these flatland creatures. They are rather plain, level headed and even-tempered people.  They eat a lot of flapjacks.  They are Mr. and Mrs. Phlatt.  We can think of this couple as being somewhat like paper dolls existing on a flat surface.  To each other, Mr. and Mrs. Phlatt each look like merely a line because they cannot view each other from the perspective of height.

If a three-dimensional being held his finger just a fraction of an inch above the universe of Flatland, Mr. and Mrs. Phlatt would never see him or his finger because his hand would be outside the dimensions of their cosmos.

If this same three-dimensional being pushed his finger through the plane of Flatland the only part visible in flatland would be a small circle.  But even though a circle is visible from above Flatland, Mr. and Mrs. Phlatt, in Flatland, would see only a small line.

If the three-dimensional visitor then decided to push two more fingers through the confines of Flatland, three small circles would appear, but Mr. and Mrs. Phlatt would only notice three small lines appearing suddenly.  Each line would be different.  To Mr. and Mrs. Phlatt it might look like three distinct objects, three parts of one object, or one object in two or more places at the same time, or some combination of the above. They would really have no way to ascertain for sure what they were seeing.

This three-dimensional being can produce even more phenomena that is incomprehensible to Mr. and Mrs. Phlatt.  For instance a random pencil mark on Flatland would more than perplex the inhabitants.

The three-dimensional being has much more flexibility and insight than the Flatlanders.  He can be very, very close and not be seen.  He can appear in two or more places simultaneously.  He can observe the activities of Flatland without being seen.  He can reveal himself to the inhabitants if he chooses, but only the part of him that the Flatlanders can sense from their limited perspective.

Scripture states that GOD is near to us but also states that no one has seen or can see GOD.

The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.  Pslam 145:18

God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:  Acts 17:24-27

Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.  Job 9:11

Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. 1 Timothy 6:15-16

One of the most difficult areas of scripture for many to understand and resolve is the concept of a triune GOD.  Scripture is clear in stating that there is one GOD.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
Deuteronomy 6:4

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.  Ephesians 4:4-6

If there is one, how can there be three?  Consider the example above of Mr. and Mrs. Phlatt. When the three-dimensional being pushed one finger through Flatland was he different than when he pushed three fingers into the plane?  Mr. and Mrs. Phlatt may have perceived him as two different beings.  One was a small line, the other three small lines.  Actually these were just two different manifestations of the same three-dimensional being.  In the same way GOD the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are but manifestations of one being that exists in more dimensions than we do.

Like the three-dimensional being drawing a line across Flatland, GOD at times reveals Himself to us through manipulation of the cosmos.  Examples of this might be events such as the Great Flood, the parting of the Red-Sea, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the ten plagues of Egypt and even the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  He will "draw lines" in the future as well.  The Rapture, the events of the Tribulation and even the Second Coming of Jesus Himself will involve extraordinary events in our own little "Flatland", planet earth.

The third part of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, relates to us in a way that might be considered, by some as interaction in a yet undiscovered spiritual dimension or dimensions of some nature.

We know that the only way we can see GOD is if He places part of His being into our universe.just as when the three-dimensional being pushed his fingers through Flatland.  Jesus was and is a physical manifestation of GOD in our four-dimensional cosmos.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  Philippians 2:5-8

The scripture shown above takes on a more consummate meaning when considering the possibility of dimensional aspects of the universe.

Math and science teach that everything had a beginning.  At some point all things were made.  Time marches on from that point and cannot be stopped or reversed.  This single dimensional linearity of time is characteristic of our observable universe.

If there were two or more dimensions of time, time would not be merely linear.  There would not necessarily be specific beginning points.  Time would not be confined to only "moving forward".  If time were two-dimensional instead of linear and one-dimensional, time could be represented as a planar surface, rather than just a line.  This planar surface could be thought of as containing an infinite number of directions, or an infinite number of linear timelines.  If GOD were to operate in such a "plane of time" he could then move on an infinite number of time lines that are independent of the one on which we are trapped.  Thus He would have no beginning and no end.  Scripture is in agreement with this view.  When Moses asked GOD what to tell the Israelites when they asked the Name of GOD, GOD told Moses something seemingly cryptic.

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.  Exodus 3:14

The word from which "I AM" as translated in Hebrew is "hayah" which means, "to be" and is translated in various forms as "remain", "lasts" and "sustains".  I AM screams the transcendental nature of GOD for all to see!  The implication being that GOD exists in all moments of time at the same instant.  This would be impossible in our restricted four-dimensional existence, but not with multiple dimensions.  GOD made promises (promises of salvation and redemption) before the creation, so therefore he existed before the creation.

In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Titus 1:2

Time did not start until the creation, so GOD existed before time began.and He will continue to exist.

So.how did Jesus do that?  Poof! And He was in the room!  Someday soon will know the answer to that question, whether or not other dimensions are involved or not, because we will be just like Him and we will see Him just as He is.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
1 John 3:2

That coming "event horizon" is one that is most eagerly anticipated by all those that trust in the great I AM.

Be blessed and meditate or meditate and be blessed!!!!.. The choice is yours!!
