For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.  For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.  Ephesians 5:8-12

Walk as children of the light.

Children of Light?

The culture around us distorts the initial perception of the phrase: Walk as children of the light. The phrase is not steeped in mysticism but it is simply a Biblical simile comparing light and darkness.really!

Children of light are simply people who are "in the Lord".  They are in Christ and are blessed with every spiritual blessing.  People who are "In the Lord and "in Christ" are merely those who choose to trust.and obey.the Lord that created them. These characteristics should found in all of us.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.  Ephesians 1:3

Our life is hidden with Christ in God.

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.  Colossians 3:3

We eagerly wait the time of eternal embodiment, with Christ..

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.  Colossians 3:4

We who are in the Lord walk in the light and are children of light.  Children of light!

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 1Thessalonians 5:5

Scripture reminds us that we were once darkness - without Christ, the Lord.

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:  Ephesians 5:8

It is a sober thing for us when we remember our past life of sin and damnation - not to revel in the good old days of licentiousness, but to remember our lost and hopeless condition without Christ.  Occasionally thinking upon our once lost condition in sin helps us remain thankful toward God and helps keep us humble while walking among those still in darkness all around us.

We as children of light bear the fruit of the Spirit thus proving what is acceptable to the Lord.

The fruit of the Spirit is the sum of all goodness, righteousness, and truth.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law . Galatians 5:22-23

In direct opposition are fruits of darkness, which are the works of the flesh.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.  Galatians 5:19-21

By bearing the fruit of the Spirit the children of light live a life continuously proving the things, which are pleasing to God and are a light to the world thereby exposing the evil works of darkness.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  Matthew 5:13-16

The difficulty with walking as children of light is that the people walking in darkness around us do not like it when we refuse to participate in the deeds of darkness because we expose their actions for what they are...darkness.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.  John 3:19-21

Each person is either a child of light or a child of darkness.  The children of light bear fruits of the Spirit and expose darkness while the children of darkness merely revel in darkness and produce a life characterized by the works of the flesh.  The children of light point the way to heaven while the children of darkness point the way to nowhere, which is ultimately nothing but destruction and death.  Which is the path of love?  Which path is the path you want to travel?  On which path are most people around you traveling?

Show your love to others.  That, after all, is what we are to be known by.  Go ahead get lightheaded.and bear some fruit.  The people around you will benefit from your stepping into the light.

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  Galatians 5:24-25
