There is an expression to describe the person who is in serious danger and has zero chance of escaping that danger. The expression is "sitting duck." The sitting duck has no chance of escaping the hunter. Ducks fly with agility and speed. Ducks swim gracefully, but not with speed. Ducks run ugly and slow. A duck sitting in the water or on land has zero chance of escaping the undetected hunter.
The uncommitted believer who is not actively serving God is a sitting duck. Satan is the hunter.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Peter 5:8
When we choose an existence that spiritually sits rather than serves, the advantage is given to Satan. The sitting Christian will be wounded. Sitting certainly will result in great pain, and it can result in death. Faith should not sit still but should prompt the action of a servant.
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:17-20
To avoid wounding or death from the hunter, Satan, we must protect ourselves.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Ephesians 6:11-18
When we understand that the rules of the hunt and the protection that is required we can stand, we are sitting no longer. As we stand we realize that what GOD wants for us is really what is best for us. It is not that complicated to realize what GOD desires for us. All the commandments are simply reduced to only two.
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:30-31
Loving GOD is also reduced to two actions, trust and obedience. Loving others is a matter of being a servant. It's really pretty easy.love GOD and love others. Fellowship with GOD. fellowship with others.
Love GOD by trusting Him. Trust in GOD, is believing that what He says He will do. He says He will fellowship with each of us and will cleanse us from sin. GOD fellowships with each of us if we keep in the light He has provided.
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:5-9
Love GOD by obeying Him. Obedience is simply doing what GOD says. Doing otherwise is sin.
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. Romans 6:11-18
Love others by being a servant. To be the greatest in GOD's eyes, be the best servant.
But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. Matthew 23:11
Be vigilant, put on the armor, Love GOD, love others. Rely on the Rock of our salvation. Be the odd duck and avoid being picked off. |
