Direct Israeli-Palestinian Talks to Start Next Week in Washington

The delegations will be headed by Israeli prime minister’s adviser Yitzhak Molcho and senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat. debkafile’s Middle East sources disclose that Special US Middle East Envoy George Mitchell notified Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas Monday, March 8, that his mission on behalf of president Barack Obama was to get direct peace talks started without delay at a venue near Washington. The US president, he said, was out of patience with the two sides’ objections, gripes and maneuvers.
According to our Washington sources, administration officials were charged with finding a location around the US capital isolated enough for Israel and Israeli negotiators to talk in private. They recommended the 11th Wing’s facility at Bolling Air Force base, which best answered the White House’s request for a venue where the  Israeli and Palestinian delegations could be kept out of reach of US, Israeli and Palestinian media, so that Mitchell could act as the negotiations sole spokesman.

The US envoy’s immediate plan now is to ensconce the two delegations for a couple of days in separate rooms at a place in Israel still to be selected to preserve the semblance of indirect talks.  After that, they will be transferred to Washington early next week.

Ark of the Covenant: Future Role

In the previous installment of this “Ark of the Covenant” series, we looked at the main theories as to where the Ark is today. In this final installment, we’ll look to see if the Ark has any future role.

The Forgotten Ark

Regardless of what happened to the Ark, the Scriptures suggest that it will never be found again. This comes as quite a shock to some Christians who have assumed that the Ark must be found before the Tribulation Temple can be built and animal sacrifice re-instituted. Others have simply assumed that the Ark would be replaced in the Holy of Holies when the Lord’s Millennial Temple is built.

But Jeremiah says point blank that “the ark of the covenant of the Lord… shall not come to mind, nor shall they remember it, nor shall they miss it, nor shall it be made again” (Jeremiah 3:16). The context of this passage is the Millennial reign of Jesus, so it does not rule out the possibility of a discovery prior to that time. Conceivably, the Ark could be discovered, and Satan could use its discovery to incite the rebuilding of a Temple where an apostate sacrificial system would be re-instituted. We know that such a Temple will be built, but I doubt if its construction will be motivated by the discovery of the Ark…more…

Israel in Final Stages of Planning Strike on Iran

Israeli Chief of Staff Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi is in the US. There are speculations that Israel is gearing up for a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Ashkenazi will hold numerous meetings with top US political and military officials while in Washington. Last week it was reported that Israel had begun practicing rapid refueling, the type of which would only be used in a sustained aerial attack on a distant enemy.

That news corresponded with reports that Iran would have to move its uranium stockpile to less secure facilities in order to conduct planned enrichment, and that the Islamic Republic had nearly completed work on a massive missile launch site.

IHS Jane’s, a respected international defense journal, reported on Friday that the new launch site east of Tehran can be easily seen in satellite imagery, and is clearly large enough to launch Iran’s newly-introducted Simorgh missile.

The Simorgh is ostensibly a space-launch vehicle (SLV), but Israeli experts have noted that it could easily be converted into a long-range ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Jane’s believes that North Korea aided Iran in the construction of the new launch site…more…

N Korea Says Ready to ‘Blow up’ SKorea, US

North Korea’s army said Monday it is ready to “blow up” South Korea and the U.S., hours after the allies kicked off annual military drills that Pyongyang has slammed as a rehearsal for attack.

South Korea and the U.S. – which normally dismiss such threats as rhetoric – began 11 days of drills across South Korea on Monday morning to rehearse how the U.S. would deploy in time of emergency on the Korean peninsula.

The U.S. and South Korea argue the drills – which include live firing by U.S. Marines, aerial attack drills and urban warfare training – are purely defensive. North Korea claims they amount to attack preparations and has demanded they be canceled.

The North’s People’s Army issued a statement Monday, warning the drills created a tense situation and that its troops are “fully ready” to “blow up” the allies once the order is issued…more…

Dire Warning: Israel Must Strike Iran Now

The only action that can stop Iran from building nuclear weapons is an Israeli strike on Tehran’s nuclear facilities, argued John Bolton, the former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. under the Bush administration.

Speaking in a radio interview with WND senior reporter Aaron Klein, who hosts an investigative program on New York’s WABC 770 AM, Bolton warned time is running out for an Israeli attack.

“Right now we know about the facilities. … We know where they are,” he said. “We know exactly what their dimensions are, and I think they are susceptible to an Israeli attack.”

Bolton said an Israeli military option “isn’t there forever. … If Israel is going to use military force, it needs to use it sooner rather than later.”

Bolton posited, “Right now, basically the only scenario that I see other than Iran getting nuclear weapons is military strikes against their nuclear program that result in breaking Iran’s control over the nuclear fuel cycle.”

Continued Bolton: “Since I don’t see any possibility that the Obama administration will use military force, I think what that means – to cut to the chase – is this comes down to a decision by Israel whether or not it will use military force against Iran’s program.”

Bolton said he believes there is no doubt Israel possesses the military capability to hit Iran’s nuclear sites, but he said the Jewish state would need to act soon…more…
