As 2009 get seriously underway, the world is ganging up on Israel more than ever before.
Like a flood foaming furiously behind a massive logjam, the river of “new” antisemitism that expresses itself in anti-Israel enmity has been gathering strength for years. Unleashed, it has the potential to pulverize the “pestilence” that is the Jewish state.
Until just a few months ago one “key log” – the United States of America – had been holding it back. But now, 100 plus days into Barack Obama’s presidency, numerous reports and leaks assessing his planned approach to the Middle East indicate the blockage is to be removed.
There is mounting evidence that the new administration has resolved to see the biblical and historical Land of Israel divided between Jew and Arab on its watch.
It has made this decision knowing full well the unjustness of it (these are Jewish lands); the peril of it (to Israel’s existence); the bankruptcy of it (from Madrid to Annapolis, 18 years of the land-for-peace process have been 18 years of failure).

New ‘hate-crimes’ legislation ’shocks the conscience’
The House of Representatives passed legislation last week to add sexual orientation and gender to the list of categories covered by federal “hate-crimes” laws.
“Pedophilia is one of the scores of sexual orientations that are included, that are protected, that are granted special preferred status under this legislation to the exclusion of other classifications of people,” says Matt Barber of Liberty Counsel.

Republican opponents of the legislation claim Democrat supporters of the measure are not being clear about who exactly will receive special protections under the bill.
“Bestiality, pedophilia … pick your poison,” adds Barber.
He says the legislation “shocks the conscience” and is clearly unconstitutional because it “guarantees unequal protection under the law.”
“It’s denying protections for veterans, for homeless people, for the elderly that it’s granting pedophiles.”
Democrat Sens. Edward Kennedy and Patrick Leahy have produced matching legislation in the U.S. Senate, and President Obama supports the measure.
Maine House OK’s Gay Marriage Bill

After a three-hour debate, the Maine House gave final approval to a same-sex marriage bill and sent it back to the Senate, where a final vote is pending.
Representatives voted 89-57 Tuesday afternoon to give the bill final approval after rejecting an amendment that called for a November referendum. The bill was sent back to the Senate, which is expected to take it up when it returns Wednesday.
The proposal would make Maine the fifth state to allow gay marriage. But it’s unclear whether Gov. John Baldacci would sign it. Baldacci remains undecided…more…
New Hampshire Legislators Vote For Gay Marriage

The New Hampshire Legislature has passed a bill allowing gay marriage, but the governor hasn’t said whether he’ll sign it. Maine legislators voted earlier Wednesday to approve gay marriage. If it becomes law in both states, they would be the fifth and sixth to allow the practice.
The New Hampshire House voted Wednesday for a version of the bill passed by the Senate last week. Gov. John Lynch has said he believes the word “marriage” should be reserved for the union of a man and a woman…more…
Chief Rabbinate Holy Land Assets Cannot Be Turned Over to Vatican

In response to reports of negotiations on the possible transfer of dozens of holy sites in Israel to Vatican control ahead of pope’s visit, Holy Sites Commission member Rabbi Kook says ‘this unprecedented historical disgrace threatens the very existence of Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish nation’
The Chief Rabbinate issued a special clarification Wednesday stating that according to halachic rule, no Holy Land assets can be handed over to the Vatican.
The ruling followed Pope Benedict XVI’s request to be given the title to several of the Christian faith’s holy sites, ahead of his upcoming visit to Israel.
On Tuesday the Rabbinate’s Holy Sites Commission convened an emergency session on the matter, after which it issued a statement demanding that the government “cease all discussions on the matter”.
The statement further read that the Holy Sites Commission convened the meeting after being approached by “rabbis from Jewish communities around the world who expressed their shock and amazement over reports of negotiations on the possible transfer of holy sites in Jerusalem and throughout all of Israel to the Vatican’s control.”…more…
