Obama Wants Jerusalem’s Holy Sites Under International Jurisdiction
www.timesonline.co.uk
PRESIDENT Barack Obama will offer his personal commitment to “change the conversation” with the Muslim world in a long-awaited speech in Cairo this week.
White House advisers vowed that Obama would “take on the tough issues”, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and offer to bridge differences with Muslims based on “mutual interests and mutual respect” – the same words used in his address to the Turkish parliament last month.
Administration officials say privately that Obama has given himself two years for a diplomatic breakthough on a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians, despite the opposition of Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, to America’s minimum demand for a freeze on all settlement building in disputed territory…more…
Russian Political Expert Says Nuclear Catastrophe ‘Inevitable’
en.rian.ru
A Russian political expert has told RIA Novosti that the international community is not paying enough attention to the threat of an imminent nuclear catastrophe.
“Today we are rightly worried about problems such as the possible development of the economic crisis, a H1N1 pandemic, and ecological safety. However, humanity is not paying attention to the increasing potential for a nuclear catastrophe,” said Vladimir Kulagin, professor of global politics at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
He also said that the peaceful use of nuclear energy had increased massively following a fall-off after the Chernobyl disaster, and that its further growth would “invariably” lead to the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
“The possibility of nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists is being underestimated,” he said, adding that global non-proliferation efforts were failing like never before…more…
Proud Hungarians Must Prepare For War Against the Jews
www.haaretz.com
Given our current situation, anti-Semitism is not just our right, but it is the duty of every Hungarian homeland lover, and we must prepare for armed battle against the Jews.”
This quote appeared in a newsletter published by an organization calling itself “The trade union of Hungarian police officers prepared for action”.
Hungarian law allows police officers to organize in trade unions of their own. The union – by its own definition – aims to protect the professional interests of those unionized, and not to partake in political activity.
However, the law does not prevent the union from distributing a newsletter, the content of which is at the discretion of its editor, and its editor alone…more…
The New Tolerance In Academia
bible-prophecy-today.blogspot.com
Josh McDowell has spent thirty years proclaiming Christ on college and university campuses all across America and around the world. He recently commented on the impact of the “New Tolerance” by observing that students now respond to his message in a completely different way.
In the past when he would present the claim that Jesus is the only hope for the world, the response from students was, “Prove it!” Today the response is, “You have no right to say that! You’re a bigot!”
Josh summed up the new campus atmosphere by stating:
“An imbecile’s claim that Ronald MacDonald is the only hope for Mankind becomes equally valid with my claim that there is no hope apart from Jesus. I have no right to judge or condemn his claim, nor do I have the right to point out that he is an idiot.”
I used to teach comparative government and comparative political philosophy at the university level. In both courses, the purpose was to evaluate the competing truth claims. We would consider questions like these: Is democracy more valid than oligarchy? Is Communism more valid than Capitalism? Is Existentialism more valid than Rationalism?
Today such an approach would be considered hardcore bigotry! The purpose of comparative studies today is “to understand, appreciate and accept competing systems.”…more…
US Officials Raise Alarm About New Venezuelan Missiles
www.mcclatchydc.com
Venezuela’s recent purchase of the most lethal shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles in the Russian arsenal is sharpening U.S. concerns that parts of President Hugo Chávez’s massive weapons buildup could wind up in the hands of terrorists or guerrillas in neighboring Colombia.
Washington’s unease is well-founded, U.S. government officials say, because of credible evidence that three top Venezuelan officials offered Colombia’s FARC rebels weapons, money and contacts to buy anti-aircraft missiles in 2007.
Such missiles in the hands of the FARC would mark a steep escalation of the 45-year-old conflict in Colombia, where government forces in recent years have deployed a fleet of slow-moving ground-attack warplanes and U.S.-built helicopters to deal devastating blows to rebel jungle camps.
”We are concerned about Venezuelan arms purchases that exceed its needs and are therefore potentially destabilizing,” State Department spokeswoman Sara Mangiaracina said. “The Man-Portable Air Defense Systems Venezuela have purchased from Russia are sophisticated weapons systems. It is important that these weapons systems be appropriately controlled to avoid the possibility of diversion.”
