Unanimous Ruling: Iowa Marriage no Longer Limited to One Man, One Woman
desmoinsregister.com

Basic fairness and constitutional equal protection were the linchpins of Friday’s historic Iowa Supreme Court ruling that overturned a 10-year-old ban on same-sex marriage and puts Iowa squarely in the center of the nation’s debate over gay rights.

The unanimous, 69-page decision maintains a church’s right to decide who can be married under its roof, but it runs counter to the expressed opinion of a majority of Iowans who believe marriage is defined as the union of one man and one woman.

The landmark ruling is guaranteed to send shock waves through politics in Iowa and beyond. With no appeal as an option, opponents say their only hope to overturn Friday’s decision is an almost-certain bid to amend the state constitution. But that path, which would eventually require a public vote, would not yield results until 2012 at the earliest.

Vermont Lawmakers Give OK to Gay Marriage

Vermont’s House of Representatives gave preliminary approval Thursday night to a historic same-sex marriage bill, setting up a showdown with Gov. Jim Douglas.

After nearly four hours of passionate debate from supporters and opponents of the measure, the House approved the bill by a vote of 95-52 shortly after 9 p.m.

The legislation, S.115, would give same-sex couples the right to marry in Vermont.

The bill will be brought up again in the House on Friday for final approval. Then it must return to the state Senate, where changes to language must be approved. Should the Senate OK those changes, the bill will head to Douglas desk — and a promised veto.

International Politics and Foreshadows of the Beast

In the aftermath of the Yom Kippur War, a war which as mentioned in the previous section came perilously close to a nuclear confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union, the impetus was to step back from the brink of what could have been an apocalyptic scenario. It is here then that the initial necessary movement toward a “peace” process began. It was, at first, an earnest process for the sake of preventing a super power confrontation and nuclear holocaust.

Somewhere along the Prophetic Road to Revelation now orbiting the “fig tree,” the “peace” process was usurped, gutted so as to rapidly become categorically corrupt and filled with a new global agenda not dedicated to peace, but to Israel’s destruction through diplomatic means. Arab oil, greed and massive profiteering were the special high-grade lubricant slathered all over Israel’s western allies which brought this abomination about and sustains it to this day. Do not doubt for a microsecond that YHWH God will remedy this worldly status-quo in due course at the time of His choosing…more…

The Silent, Spineless Clergy

Across America you will find thousands of courageous ministers and priests who regularly stand strong for moral and biblical positions against the tide of public opinion. These folks take a stand for biblically-based positions on moral issues — no matter the cost. I admire both their courage and their integrity.

At the same time, however, it is appropriate to confront the thousands of pastors and priests across the nation who, by their silence, refuse to address the moral issues of our times — issues like pornography, abortion, and homosexuality. Here are just a few examples of what I consider to be moral cowardice among our clergy:

• Approximately nine years ago, the senior pastor of a large church in north San Diego County refused to show his personal support for a men’s sexual addiction-recovery group because he was “embarrassed” to discuss the subject from the pulpit. Subsequently the group leader…more…

Obama Hails the New World Order

Gordon Brown declared that a $1 trillion package to stimulate economic growth agreed at yesterday’s G20 summit in London will ensure that the world pulls out of recession more quickly.

Speaking after the one-day summit of the world’s richest nations in the Docklands, the Prime Minister said there were “no quick fixes”, adding: “Today’s decisions will not immediately solve the crisis. But we have begun the process by which it will be solved.”

He said: “This is the day that the world came together to fight back against the global recession, not with words, but with a plan for global recovery and for reform and with a clear timetable for its delivery.”
