As Tisha B’Av Approaches, Knesset Focuses on the Temple Mount

As Tisha B’Av, the annual day of mourning over the destruction of the Temple, approaches, Members of Knesset met to talk about the Temple, its role in Jewish life, and Israel’s approach to the Temple Mount today. Dr. Mordechai Keidar discussed the political implications of Israel’s stance vis-a-vis the Temple Mount.

Referring to the Palestinian Authority’s demands for Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, he said, “The struggle for Jerusalem is not territorial, it is theological… do we give in to the Muslim claim that Judaism is no longer relevant?”

The Muslim view of Judaism is the root of the PA’s refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish country, he said. The PA’s claims to Jerusalem are clearly not due to Islam’s reverence for Jerusalem, as Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran, he argued.

have often wondered why it is such a tiny nation as Israel commands so much news coverage. Having declared its sovereignty in 1948, it is now just over sixty years old.

David Ben-Gurion went on the radio and said, “Two thousand years of wandering have come to an end.”

The name, Israel, means “he who wrestles with God.” The wandering began after the Jews had lived in Israel for over a thousand years, after the Romans destroyed the Second Temple and drove them out in 70 AD.

Israel has fought and won wars intended to annihilate it. Zionism, a new Jewish state, began as the dream in the late 1800s among European and Russian Jews seeking to escape anti-Semitism. It became a place of refuge for Holocaust survivors in the late 1940s and for Jews who were forced to flee Middle Eastern nations.

Hezbollah’s Nasrallah Warns Israel Over Future War

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah threatened to attack Tel Aviv if Israel were to bomb Beirut’s southern suburbs, a bastion of the powerful Shi’ite military and political group.

Hezbollah fought against Israel three years ago in a 34-day war after the group captured two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid. Some 1,200 people in Lebanon, mostly civilians, were killed and 160 Israelis, mostly soldiers, died.

Israel pounded Beirut’s southern suburbs as well as mainly Shi’ite southern Lebanon where Hezbollah maintains a stronghold and from which Israel withdrew in 2000.

Hezbollah and Israel have not exchanged fire since the war ended three years ago. But tensions have risen recently after a weapons cache exploded earlier this month in southern Lebanon.

I am very passionate about going to Israel and leading others on tours of the Holy Land. Gary Fisher, founder and director of Lion of Judah Ministries out of Franklin, Tennessee, asked me a series of questions to understand the reasons behind my passion.

Question 1) What is the number one reason you believe we’re living in the season of the Lord’s return?

There’s so many that I could give, but the number one reason has to be the re-establishment of the nation of Israel.

The Bible says over and over and over that in the end times the Jewish people are going to be regathered from the four corners of the earth and their nation will be reestablished. They’ll be put back in the city of Jerusalem and the whole world will come against them over one issue — the control of Jerusalem. And that’s where we are.

And, I’ll tell you what I saw when that began to happen in 1948. Of course, I was only a youngster at that time and in fact I was 10 years old at that time, so it was of no significance to me, but when it became significant to me was in 1967. I began to really study Bible prophecy and begin to see prophecy after prophecy being fulfilled before my very eyes that had been there 2,000 years.

Iran is Preparing Nuclear Test Site in the Desert

Iran is in the last stages of construction of a nuclear test site in the Kavir Lut desert between Tehran and its eastern border with Afghanistan.

The work is managed by the Iranian experts who were invited to attend North Korea’s nuclear test this year. Two diplomats attached to the UN nuclear watchdog agency in Vienna confirmed July 18 that Iran now has the means to test a weapon within six months.

As recently as July 9, DEBKAfile’s military sources reported that the US, Europe, and even the Binyamin Netanyahu government, appear to have adopted the same strategy for North Korea and Iran. It is a combination of harsh oral rebukes coupled with a refusal to address North Korea’s violations and Iran’s race for a nuclear bomb in any practical way, even though sanctions are clearly of no effect at all.

A blind eye is equally turned to the close collaboration between Pyongyang and Tehran on their missile and nuclear development programs.The two rogue states are also clearly in tune on their nuclear diplomacy and timetables.
